Perm, 13 of October 2022

1 October 13 marked the end of the MEF-2022 Interregional Export Forum that took place at the capital of the Kama River region. In just two days, the forum brought together over 1,500 participants.

After a forced break on account of restrictions on mass events in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the authorities of the Perm Krai once again gave a green light to the organization of the Interregional Export Forum. This year, the two-day event was held at the new and expanded Perm Expo venue.

MEF-2022 brought together the guests from 10 countries –– Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, UAE, India, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Iran. The event was also attended by the representatives of 13 regions of Russia, including the Perm Krai. There were representatives from Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod, Chelyabinsk, Kaluga, Orenburg, Saratov regions, the republics of Bashkortostan, Udmurtia, Chuvashia, and Tatarstan, as well as the capital cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow. The Forum was also attended by the federal and international experts and representatives of the regional authorities. All in all, there were 23 sessions with speakers and 86 B2B meetings.

"The Forum has attracted the attention of not just the Perm Krai companies, but also of the representatives of regional authorities. We see that exports have been growing since last year, despite the restructuring of the supply chains. The goal of the Forum was to work out the measures to counteract the resultant difficulties. Speaking of the regional authorities, we are working together with the federal executive bodies to create support measures for the exporters. Next year, we plan to increase the number of regions and federal representatives at the Forum," says Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Krai.

The key event of the first day was the plenary session entitled "Russian Regions and Global Markets: Support and Development of Foreign Economic Activity in the Context of New Reality," which gathered over 300 people. The session was attended by the governor of the Perm Krai, the heads of relevant departments of the leading Russian ministries, representatives of the Russian Export Center with the invitation extended to the representatives of the Volga Federal District regions, heads of major exporting companies, and experts in finance and logistics.

The Vice President of the Russian Export Center Alexei Solodov noted that the center currently champions the interests of the Russian exporters and promptly responds to requests from business: "At the moment we are trying to "fine-tune" the already existing support measures in terms of accessibility, responsiveness, and digitalization. We currently have a certain platform where exporters can receive administrative support from the Russian Export Center, along with financial support and more. In addition, we will soon be launching the 'Made in Russia' certification system."

In addition to the plenary session, the first day of the Forum also saw a number of discussion panels, where the experts were given a chance to respond to the most pressing questions regarding foreign economic activities. In the course of the "Russia––Turkey: New Level of Economic Partnership" business dialogue, the General Director of TG Trading Melih Dalar noted the progress in socio-economic development achieved by Russia and Turkey: "Our relationship is built on trust, and we hope that export and import between our countries will grow."

On the first day of MEF-22, the official delegation walked around the Forum's exposition, where 16 Perm companies presented their products. For representatives of the regional companies this was an opportunity to personally speak to the key people and authorities about their projects as delegation included Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Krai, Roman Chekushov, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Licensing in Foreign Trade of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Alexey Solodov, Vice President of the Russian Export Center, and Liliya Shchur-Trukhanovich, Director of the Department for Development and Regulation of Foreign Economic Activity of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development. In addition, the Forum hosted the awards ceremony for the winners of the district stage of the Exporter of the Year prize. More than 40 companies received awards and prizes, including 14 companies from the Perm Krai.

The second day of the Forum was distinguished by its practice-oriented approach. Five different master classes were led by experienced experts. A significant part of the day was devoted to B2B negotiations between Russian companies with participation of their foreign counterparts from nine other countries. Participants noted the practical value of such meetings in today's business context.

For example, Suleiman Veliyev, the Deputy General Director of GLC Engineering (Azerbaijan), noted the importance of maintaining mutually beneficial business relations: "Azerbaijan's trade and economic relations with Russia are currently experiencing a renaissance thanks to the emergence of new technologies and standards from the West. Today, we fully intend to develop successful cooperation with Russia. In my opinion, in these difficult times, we should pay attention to the traditional partners who can be trusted. Speaking in general about the Forum, I would like to note that such platforms are useful in terms of interaction and new contacts between the exporters. This is what helps to achieve a certain synergy in the development of foreign economic activities."

The Interregional Export Forum has already become a trademark of the Perm Krai, a key business event that attracts exporters, international customers, experts, and representatives of the regional and federal authorities. The MEF platform plays an important connecting role, informing about cooperation between the authorities and business in resolving the issues of foreign economic activity. In the future, the Interregional Export Forum will be held regularly, attracting more international and federal participants to discuss global issues and solve problems at an even higher level.

The growth of exports of the Perm Krai manufacturers within the framework of the International Cooperation and Export national project is one of the regional government's priorities. Earlier, the Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the country to increase the volume of non-energy exports by 2024.
